Gemelos 28 ordered to be demolished

It appears it may now be the end of the road for the prestigious Gemelos 28 complex located on Calle Alcalde Manuel Catalán Chana in Benidorm.

The supreme court of justice has ratified an earlier decision made in 2012 and has ordered the Geralitat Valenciana to demolish the twin towers and refund the 186 owners of the apartments the purchase amount plus an additional 20%.

The development has been declared illegal due to the construction being built on protected public coastal land.

The court has ordered a demolition plan be submitted within 3 months, together with a budget of cost and to appoint an official responsible for this order, whilst overseeing the compensation due to the owners.

A meeting will be held between Benidorm officials who are not party to the case and the apartment owners in the next few days to address the consequences of the ruling and options available for those affected.

The meeting will also focus on the possibility of filing an appeal within 7 days of the official notification.
